Petro-Canada offers several alternative fuels in select locations, including:
- Propane — at many service stations across Canada.
- Compressed natural gas — at some stations in the Vancouver area.
- Oxygenated gasoline: ethanol-blended gasoline, gasohol, or gasoline with ethyl alcohol — at selected stations in Montreal (SuperClean* 94), Saskatchewan, parts of Southern Ontario (March 2007), Manitoba (December 2007) and Montreal area (RegularClean/PlusClean March 2007).
Petro-Canada will continue to offer new alternative fuels, and extend the marketing of existing alternative fuels, as market conditions warrant.
Ethanol-blended Gasoline
Ethanol-blended gasoline is a fuel that typically contains up to 10% ethanol in unleaded gasoline. Petro-Canada uses ethanol in its gasoline where legislation requires its use and where conditions warrant. Stations carrying ethanol-blended gasoline post yellow labels in the pump area to indicate that the fuel may contain a maximum of 10% ethanol. Some ethanol-blended gasoline facts:
- Fuels blended with levels of up to 10% ethanol, are safe for engine components, and do not require engine or gas-line changes in vehicles
- Since 1988, most automotive vehicles, sold in Canada, have been warranted to use ethanol- blended gasoline, at the levels of up to 10% ethanol. If you have concerns check your owners manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer
- Ethanol-blended fuels are not for aircraft. For two-stroke and four stroke engines contact the manufacturer to find out what precautions to take.
E-85 Ethanol blends 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Only a small percentage of vehicles use this blend. Petro-Canada does not currently market this specialty-use product.
