Building on our philosophy of participating in local communities as a good corporate citizen, we direct our corporate contributions to help communities build local capacity, particularly through education initiatives for youth.
Some examples of our partnerships include:
2008 Arctic Winter Games
Petro-Canada was a Gold level sponsor at the Games and was this year honoured by the International Committee for our long-time commitment to this event. The 2008 Games were held in Yellowknife in March; athletes came from Northern Canada, Alaska, Greenland, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia.

Alberta Future Leaders Program
Petro-Canada has been a sponsor of the Alberta Future Leaders Program since 2006. The program supports Aboriginal youth with latent leadership skills through formal training and mentoring. Communities that we have sponsored include Eden Valley, Fort Chipewyan and Mikisew Cree.
Morley School Snack Program
Petro-Canada, in partnership with Shell Canada, sponsors a “snack” program at the Morley Community School. This program provides all students at the school with a healthy nutritious snack every day.
2008 North American Indigenous Games
Petro-Canada will be the 'Official Fuel Supplier' for this gathering of 6,000 athletes and 3,000 cultural participants from across North America. Game officials have commended Petro-Canada for its unsolicited offer to sponsor the event hosted by the Cowichan Tribes at Duncan, British Columbia in August 2008.

2010 Olympics Legacy Totem Pole
Aboriginal Affairs has been an integral part of the Petro-Canada team that is working with the Four Host First Nations and Squamish/Kwakiutl artist Klatle Bhi in creating a 25-foot traditional totem pole. The pole will be on display during the Olympics and then will be transported to the Petro-Canada Building in Calgary for display as an ongoing legacy.
Northeast British Columbia Stay in School Program
Petro-Canada participates with four other energy companies in a program designed to incent Treaty 8 First Nation school children to finish Grade 12. At the end of each school year, a celebratory BBQ and student recognition takes place in each of the seven Treaty 8 communities, as well as in Kelly Lake. Financial resources are shared with CNRL, Conoco Philips, BP and Talisman.
