In North America, many of our operations are located in areas that are either Aboriginal traditional lands or areas that have economic and cultural significance to Aboriginal communities. Our goal is to establish and foster open and mutually beneficial relationships with Aboriginal peoples, where we operate as well as in the community as a whole. We do this by building relationships, providing employment opportunities, focusing on education and training, developing business opportunities and creating community partnerships.

Our Stakeholder and Community Engagement Policy outlines how we connect with all stakeholders and communities, including Aboriginal peoples in North America and Indigenous peoples in our international operations. The Policy commits us to establishing and fostering supportive, collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships with stakeholders in all of our operational areas.
While internationally, our operations have minimal interaction with Indigenous peoples, in North America our social and economic impact on Aboriginal and Native American communities is much more substantial. Through a long association with these communities, we have a good understanding of how we can mitigate some of the impact and make a positive contribution to the local community. In addition, the Canadian legislative framework confers specific rights for Aboriginal peoples.
For that reason, in North America, our Stakeholder and Community Engagement Policy commitments are supported by an Aboriginal Framework. This document focuses on five areas; building relationships; training and education; employment; business development, and community partnerships. It provides leaders, employees, contractors and Aboriginal communities with a practical understanding of our commitment to Aboriginal relations.
In our International business, we may find ourselves operating in regions or territories with Indigenous communities. Our environment and social impact assessment process seeks to identify those Indigenous communities in our area of operation and to provide a better basis for understanding and managing the specific issues that our presence creates for those communities. This information is integrated into our stakeholder engagement plan and our community partnership program so that we live up to the commitments that we have made to Indigenous peoples as part of our community of stakeholders.
