North American Natural Gas

We explore for and produce natural gas crude oil and natural gas liquids (NGL) in Western Canada and the U.S. Rockies. We also market natural gas in North America and have established resources in the Mackenzie Delta/Corridor and land holdings in Alaska.

In 2006, we produced 616 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of natural gas (102,700 boe/d) and 14,200 barrels per day (b/d) of crude oil and NGL.

North American Natural Gas Strategy

We are positioning North American Natural Gas for long term growth.

  • We are shifting to more unconventional production, targeting 50% of production from unconventional sources by 2010.
  • We are advancing long-term supply opportunities, including an increased focus on exploration and building land positions in Alaska and the Mackenzie Delta and Corridor in advance of pipeline developments.
  • We are developing plans for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) re-gasification plant in Quebec, jointly with TransCanada PipeLines Limited. This project links to efforts in our International business unit to establish LNG supply arrangements to Russia.
