Petro-Canada is building a material position in exploration and production in Syria. In 2006, Petro-Canada bought a 100% interest in two onshore gas fields in Syria which we are developing as the Ebla gas project. When completed, the Ebla gas plant is expected to deliver 80 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of natural gas to domestic markets, with first gas anticipated in late 2010. Petro-Canada believes there is significant upside however, and is engaged in an appraisal program in order to establish the full potential of these fields.
In early 2008, Petro-Canada completed front-end engineering and design (FEED), awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract and made the final investment decision to proceed with the project. Petro-Canada is also actively pursuing exploration on Block II in the north of the country.
